DEER Load Shapes

Load shapes can be defined as the hourly pattern of loads for a given set of variables, covering equipment, operation and other characteristics such as weather and demographics. Currently, the load shapes for the deemed measures are developed through Database for Energy Efficient Resources (DEER) simulation models. To keep the process transparent, flexible and ensure the load shapes of the measures are accurate, DNV GL proposes a four-step approach to develop the hourly load shapes for the measures across the four roadmaps. The load shape process seeks to condense load shape characteristics into 4 representative profiles for each 8760 profile:

  • Monthly factors for percent allocation by month (primarily applicable to seasonal loads)
  • Monthly ratios of average weekend day to average weekday (most applicable to non-residential)
  • Monthly ratios of peak day to average weekday (primarily weather-related)
  • Monthly per-unit hourly load shapes by day type (peak day, weekday and weekend day)

The load shapes in this context are developed are based on measure case consumption load profiles.

  • (16.6 MB): This contains an excel file, LOADLIBA-8760-v14-CPUC-DEER.xlsx, to allow users to convert from a compressed 24-hour format load shape to an 8,760 format load shape by prescribing the calendar year, the target annual energy, and some peak characteristics.
